Clerico Nebbiolo Langhe "CAPISME-E"
฿1,600
Domenico Clerico was a pioneer of the modern Barolo movement and a founding member of the "Barolo Boys," a group that revolutionized the region’s winemaking in the late 1970s and 1980s. Starting in 1976 with a small inheritance of four hectares in Monforte d’Alba, Clerico dedicated his life to showcasing the potential of the land by transitioning from grape-selling to estate-bottling. He was a visionary who championed single-vineyard expressions and single-cru wines, eventually expanding the estate to 21 hectares of prime sites in celebrated crus like Ginestra, Bussia, and Mosconi. Since his passing in 2017, his wife Giuliana and winemaker Oscar Arrivabene have continued his legacy, maintaining a philosophy where the quality of the vines is the sole factor determining a wine’s potential.
The "Capisme-e" (meaning "understand me" in Piedmontese dialect) is a pure Nebbiolo designed to communicate the essential character of the grape and the unique terroir of Monforte d’Alba. While Clerico was historically associated with modern techniques such as the use of barriques, his philosophy was always rooted in terroir transparency and "viticoltore" (vine-grower) humility. This specific cuvée is an unoaked expression, intentionally crafted to highlight the vibrant fruit and mineral precision of Nebbiolo grown in the tough, silt and limestone-rich soils of the Langhe. It serves as a "Baby Barolo," offering a more accessible entry into the estate’s style while reflecting the same dedication to purity and territorial cohesion that defined Domenico’s life work.
