Bruno Giacosa Nebbiolo d'Alba Vigna Valmaggiore
฿2,400
Bruno Giacosa, often revered as the Genius of Neive, was a legendary figure in Piedmontese winemaking whose career spanned nearly eight decades. Beginning his journey at the age of 15 in his family’s grape-brokering business, Giacosa developed an unrivaled knowledge of the region's finest crus. He was a visionary pioneer, among the first to champion single-vineyard bottlings in the 1960s, long before the concept became a hallmark of the Langhe. His commitment to quality was so absolute that he famously refused to bottle any vintage that did not meet his exacting standards, selling it off in bulk instead. Today, his daughter Bruna continues this storied legacy, maintaining the estate’s reputation for producing some of the most prestigious and collectible expressions of Nebbiolo in the world.
The Vigna Valmaggiore bottling is sourced from the esteemed Valmaggiore vineyard in the Roero district, specifically within the village of Vezza d'Alba. This site is characterized by its steep, southwest-facing slopes and sandy, calcareous soils, which offer a distinct contrast to the heavy limestone marl of the Langhe. This unique terroir imparts a natural lightness, aromatic intensity, and a more accessible, floral character to the Nebbiolo grape. Giacosa’s winemaking philosophy follows an updated traditionalist approach, utilizing stainless steel fermentation followed by 14 months of aging in French oak barrels. The result is a wine that emphasizes purity and terroir transparency, delivering refined tannins and vibrant acidity that echo the elegance of a fine Barolo while maintaining its own individual soul.
