Château Calon Ségur occupies a north-facing plateau in Saint-Estèphe, where clay-limestone soils and Atlantic maritime influence shape a Left Bank expression built on Cabernet Sauvignon (70%) with Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The 2021 vintage was aged 18 months in 50% new French oak barrels, with malolactic fermentation completed in barrel to integrate structure and oak seamlessly.

The third growth's signature lies in its restraint: where Pauillac can dominate, Calon Ségur's cooler microclimate and older vines (average 45 years) produce wines that prioritize mineral tension over extraction. The 2021 demonstrates this philosophy—a vintage marked by cool nights and extended ripening that preserved acidity and tannin definition across Bordeaux's Left Bank.

Drink now through 2040. The wine enters a phase of secondary complexity around 2027–2028.
