Mas Irene red

Pares Balta sources Mas Irene from the Penedès subregion of Catalunya, where limestone-rich soils and moderate Mediterranean elevation (200–400m) define the terroir. The vineyard's aspect captures morning sun and afternoon shade, moderating ripeness and preserving acidity through the growing season.

The blend employs carbonic maceration for a portion of the fruit, a technique that emphasizes aromatic freshness and silky tannin texture, while the remainder undergoes traditional destemming and fermentation. The wine ages in neutral oak and concrete vessels, allowing primary fruit character and mineral tension to remain central rather than oak-driven. Bottling occurs without fining or filtration, preserving natural complexity.

Mas Irene represents a deliberate move away from extraction-heavy winemaking toward transparency—the limestone minerality and cool-climate acidity remain the structural spine. The carbonic component softens tannins without sacrificing structure, making the wine approachable young while retaining aging potential through the mid-2020s.
