Etna Rosso DOC

SaleDOC.
Planeta's Etna Rosso originates from vineyards planted on the northeastern slopes of Mount Etna, Sicily's active volcano, at approximately 600 meters elevation. The site's basaltic and pumice-rich soils—products of ancient lava flows—impose mineral tension and natural acidity on the fruit.
The wine is built from Nerello Mascalese, the indigenous red variety of Etna's DOC zone. Planeta employs temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel, followed by 12 months in neutral French oak, preserving varietal character over oak influence. The approach reflects a deliberate restraint: no new wood, no extended maceration—a choice that allows the volcanic terroir's signature salinity and red-fruit precision to dominate.
Etna Rosso from Planeta demonstrates the region's capacity for age-worthy reds; the 2019 and 2020 vintages show the wine's ability to develop complexity over 5–8 years in bottle, with secondary notes of dried cherry and mineral dust emerging as primary acidity softens.
Drinking window: 2024–2032.

Sommelier’s pick: Pasta alla Norma (eggplant, tomato, basil) — mineral notes echo the dish's earthiness · Grilled swordfish with lemon — red-fruit acidity mirrors citrus brightness · Caciocavallo cheese (smoked, semi-hard) — tannin structure supports the cheese's density
