Uno “1” Riserva Premium Edition Primitivo Di Manduria D.O.C.
฿฿
Reserva.
Masseria La Volpe's "1" Riserva originates from the Primitivo di Manduria D.O.C. zone in Taranto, southeastern Puglia—a region defined by Pleistocene limestone soils and the Ionian Sea's moderating influence on diurnal temperature swings. The vineyard sits at modest elevation where clay-limestone bedrock concentrates mineral tension in the fruit.
The 2019 vintage (or current release) undergoes extended maceration on skins to extract phenolic structure, then aged in French oak for 12+ months before bottle maturation. This riserva-level expression departs from the region's typical fruit-forward profile: tannins are deliberately preserved rather than softened, acidity retained to resist the southern heat.
The transgression here is restraint—Primitivo di Manduria rarely sees this level of oak integration or aging discipline. Most producers chase immediate ripeness; La Volpe builds for evolution. The wine demands decanting and food, refusing to perform as an aperitif.
Drink 2024–2032. Peak drinking window: 2026–2029.
