Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "la Boudriotte"
฿฿฿
Premier Cru, Chassagne-Montrachet.
La Boudriotte is a south-facing 1er Cru vineyard within Chassagne-Montrachet, positioned on the village's eastern slope above the main appellation. The site's Jurassic limestone bedrock and clay-rich topsoil drain rapidly, concentrating mineral tension into the fruit.
Chateau de la Maltroye sources Pinot Noir from this parcel and conducts temperature-controlled fermentation in open wooden vats, with 18–20 months aging in French oak (25–30% new wood). The restrained new-wood regime preserves the vineyard's limestone signature rather than imposing oak overlay. Malolactic fermentation occurs in barrel, softening the wine's natural acidity while building textural depth.
The 1er Cru designation reflects Boudriotte's consistent ability to produce wines with mineral precision and mid-palate structure—neither the opulence of Grand Cru nor the immediacy of village-level Chassagne. This is a wine built for 8–12 years of cellar aging, where the oak integrates fully and secondary flavors emerge.
