Domaine Bruno Clair Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru "Les Charmes"
฿12,400
Bruno Clair — heir to the pre-war Domaine Clair-Daü and its historic parcels — built this domaine parcel by parcel after the family dissolution in 1985, adding the Chambolle-Musigny Les Charmes vineyard as recently as 2019. That deliberate, unhurried accumulation of terroir is the philosophy made physical. Les Charmes sits within Chambolle-Musigny's limestone-rich soils, where the combination of shallow brown limestone and clay delivers the appellation's signature floral lift alongside a saline, stony tension that separates it from the more muscular Côte de Nuits neighbours to the north.
In the cellar, hand-harvested, sorted fruit undergoes cold pre-fermentation maceration of 5–7 days, followed by ambient/indigenous yeast fermentation in open wooden vats with punch-downs and a total maceration of 10–15 days. Whole-cluster inclusion — between 20–50% depending on vintage — adds structural grip and aromatic complexity. Aging runs 18–20 months in barriques at moderate new-oak levels, preserving site transparency over wood imprint. The wine is bottled unfined, filtered only if the vintage demands it.
The 2021 vintage — frost-reduced, lower-yielding — produced Pinot Noir of uncommon concentration per berry: bright cherry, rose petal, and crisp acidity frame firm but fine-grained tannins. Bruno Clair's own note — 'For truly great wines, there are no bad years' — is borne out here. Approachable now, with genuine mid-term cellaring capacity through the late 2020s.
