SaleGrand Cru.
Clos de la Roche is a walled 1.6-hectare monopole within the Grand Cru climat of Morey-Saint-Denis, positioned on the mid-slope where Jurassic limestone and clay soils drain toward the Combe Ambin valley. Elevation ranges 280–320 metres, with northeastern aspect providing moderate sun intensity and extended ripening windows typical of the appellation's cooler microclimate.
Domaine Hubert Lignier employs whole-bunch fermentation in open wooden vats, a technique that preserves aromatic volatility and distributes tannin extraction across the maceration period. The wine spends 18 months in French oak (typically 30–40% new wood depending on vintage), with regular racking to manage oxidative development. Malolactic fermentation occurs in barrel, softening malic acidity while integrating oak-derived vanillin and spice compounds.
The monopole status and limestone-rich terroir produce wines of structural precision: mid-weight body, bright acidity, and fine-grained tannins that reward 8–15 years of bottle age. Recent vintages (2018–2021) show the house's commitment to minimal intervention and natural cork closure.
