Domaine Georges Noellat
Maxime Cheurlin Noellat Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru
฿18,800
When Maxime Cheurlin took the reins in 2010 at age twenty, the entire domaine's production had been sold in bulk to Jadot and Drouhin for two decades — meaning every bottle bearing the Noëllat name today was built from scratch by a single young winemaker whose bloodline runs directly to the Jayer family. Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru sits on the argilo-calcaire soils of Gevrey-Chambertin's southern flank, where the clay fraction delivers concentration and the fractured limestone beneath provides drainage and the aromatic lift that separates this climat from the more muscular northern Grands Crus. Cheurlin's approach is defined by indigenous-yeast fermentation, rare and gentle punch-downs — an 'infusion' philosophy that preserves lacy texture over extracted power — and French oak aging of 14–20 months at up to 100% new oak for Grand Cru. The cellar is actively cooled to delay and slow malolactic fermentation, a technique adopted from around 2017 that critics including Allen Meadows credit with adding measurable precision and complexity. The 2019 vintage, a warm and seductive year yielding up to 35 hl/ha, delivers generous, ripe fruit with the decadent character the season produced across the Côte de Nuits; drinking window opens from 2024 onward.
