Solaia represents Antinori's commitment to Bordeaux varieties in Tuscany's Bolgheri terroir, a coastal zone distinguished by volcanic soils and maritime influence moderating summer heat. The vineyard sits at moderate elevation on the Tyrrhenian slope, where morning fog and afternoon sea breezes extend ripening and preserve acidity.

The 2020 vintage combines Cabernet Sauvignon (80%), Cabernet Franc (15%), and Petit Verdot (5%) harvested at optimal phenolic ripeness. Fermentation occurs in temperature-controlled stainless steel, followed by 18 months in French oak (60% new, 40% one-year-old), with regular racking to manage extraction. The wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in barrel, integrating oak tannins with fruit structure.

Solaia's defining characteristic is its ability to express volcanic minerality—iron-rich soils impart a subtle graphite tension—while maintaining the elegance expected from Bolgheri's maritime microclimate. The 2020 vintage benefits from a warm, dry growing season that concentrated phenolics without sacrificing freshness.
