Chateau Talbot Saint Julien 4Ème Cru Classé
฿฿฿
Château Talbot occupies a 267-hectare estate on the gravelly plateau of Saint-Julien's left bank, where deep Günz gravel over clay subsoil defines the terroir. The vineyard's southeast-facing aspect and proximity to the Gironde estuary moderate temperature extremes, allowing consistent ripening of Cabernet Sauvignon (75%), Merlot (20%), and Petit Verdot (5%).
The 4ème Cru Classé designation reflects consistent quality across decades. Fruit is hand-harvested and destemmed before fermentation in temperature-controlled concrete vats, extracting color and tannin structure without over-extraction. The blend is aged 18 months in French oak (35–40% new), allowing gradual oxidative maturation and vanilla-oak integration. Malolactic fermentation occurs in barrel, softening acidity naturally.
Talbot's signature lies in its balance between power and restraint—Cabernet's cassis and graphite minerality remain the core, while Merlot rounds mid-palate without masking the wine's structural spine. The 2019 vintage benefits from a warm, dry growing season that pushed phenolic ripeness without sacrificing freshness.
Drink 2024–2045. Decant 45 minutes before service to open aromatics.
