Chateau Ducru Beaucaillou Madame de Beaucaillou Haut -Medoc
฿฿
Château Ducru-Beaucaillou has produced a second wine under the Madame de Beaucaillou label to channel fruit from younger parcels and select vats that fall outside the grand vin's exacting threshold — a deliberate quality-sorting decision that keeps the flagship's average vine age high. The estate sits on one of the Médoc's most celebrated gravel ridges in Saint-Julien, though this bottling carries the broader Haut-Médoc appellation, drawing on parcels where the deep Garonne river gravel over clay subsoil delivers natural drainage and moderate heat retention. Those conditions produce Cabernet Sauvignon with firm but approachable structure and precise dark-fruit character. Vinification follows the château's house style: temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel, with maceration calibrated to extract colour and tannin without over-extraction from younger vines, followed by aging in French oak barriques — a proportion of which are new — for approximately 12 months. What distinguishes this expression is its appellation declassification: the same winemaking team, the same gravel-ridge address, but priced as Haut-Médoc rather than Saint-Julien, offering access to Ducru's terroir logic at a fraction of the grand vin's cost. Drink now through 5–7 years from vintage for primary fruit, or cellar for a decade to allow the oak and tannin to fully integrate.
