Chateau Latour Les Forts de Latour Pauillac

−12%In 2012, Château Latour made the most disruptive commercial decision in modern Bordeaux: withdrawing entirely from the en primeur system — the first First Growth to do so — and committing to release wines only when deemed ready to drink. The bottle in hand is the direct product of that philosophy. Les Forts de Latour draws from parcels outside the walled L'Enclos but is vinified under the same parcel-by-parcel discipline across 80 temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, with fruit sorted at both bunch and berry level before full de-stemming and approximately three weeks of skin contact. Malolactic fermentation completes in tank; aging runs in 50% new French oak barriques — half the new-wood intensity of the Grand Vin, preserving more primary fruit definition. The estate's deep gravel croupes over polychrome clay-slate subsoil, just 300 metres from the Gironde Estuary, deliver the slow, even ripening that insulates Latour's second wine from vintage inconsistency. The 2015 vintage produced chalky, well-integrated tannins alongside violet and sweet black fruit, with intensity sufficient for decades of development — drinking window 2025–2055. What no peer replicates: a second wine released on a First Growth's own readiness schedule, not the market's.
