Gerard Bertrand Art de Vivre Languedoc AOP (Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre)
฿1,200
When Gérard Bertrand converted his first estate, Domaine de Cigalus, to biodynamics in 2002, he set in motion what would become the world's largest Demeter-certified biodynamic wine operation — a direct rebuke to the Languedoc's bulk-production legacy. Art de Vivre draws on that same philosophy, applied across warm Mediterranean terroir where strong coastal winds reduce disease pressure and allow farming with zero chemical inputs.
The Languedoc AOP designation pulls from the house's broader Mediterranean holdings, where soils shift between gravelly alluvium (Corbières-Boutenac), limestone and marl, and clay-rich subsoils — each contributing textural weight and sun-baked fruit concentration to the Syrah-Grenache-Mourvèdre core. Warm days and the region's characteristic dry heat drive phenolic ripeness, while biodynamic viticulture preserves natural soil microbiome and aromatic precision.
True to house method, each parcel is vinified separately in concrete or stainless steel vats before Gérard Bertrand personally oversees the final assemblage. Maceration in concrete builds structure without imposing oak, and all winemaking decisions — harvest timing, racking, bottling — are governed by the biodynamic lunar calendar. The result is a Mediterranean red that carries the mineral clarity of biodynamic farming at a scale no other Languedoc producer has attempted. In warmer vintages, expect concentrated dark fruit and a denser mid-palate; drink within 3–5 years for primary fruit expression.
