Pauillac de Lynch Bages 2016
฿2,980
Pauillac de Lynch Bages is the second wine of Château Lynch Bages, a Cinquième Cru Classé that has traded consistently at Second Growth prices for decades — one of Bordeaux's most documented cases of a château outpacing its 1855 rank through sustained investment rather than reputation alone. The fruit is drawn from the Bages plateau, south-southwest of Pauillac town, where deep Garonne gravel over limestone sub-strata — deposited by slow Pyrenean erosion — delivers the free drainage that concentrates phenolics without sacrificing freshness, moderated by the Gironde estuary's thermal buffer. Vinification follows the grand vin's parcel-by-parcel approach in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats, with malolactic fermentation split between vat and barrel; aging proceeds in French oak barriques at approximately 75% new oak for 15–18 months, a regime that imprints the house's characteristic cedar and graphite frame even at second-wine level. What distinguishes this expression is the 2016 vintage itself: the brand library describes it as delivering exceptional substance and freshness simultaneously, with tannins already well-integrated — an unusual combination in a vintage of this depth. Dark fruit, mint, and a firm but approachable structure make the 2016 the most accessible recent release in the Lynch Bages stable; drink now through 2032.
