"Tormaresca" By Antinori Trentangeli Castel Del Monte DOC
฿฿
Tormaresca is Antinori's expression of Castel del Monte, a UNESCO-protected plateau in inland Puglia where limestone bedrock and diurnal temperature swings shape wines of unexpected structure. The vineyard sits at 400+ meters elevation on calcareous clay soils, a rarity in this warm region that forces slower ripening and preserves acidity.
The blend—primarily Primitivo with Negroamaro—ferments in temperature-controlled stainless steel, then ages 12 months in neutral French oak to avoid masking the site's mineral signature. This restraint is deliberate: Antinori's winemaking here prioritizes terroir over extraction, a transgression in a region historically defined by ripe, fruit-forward reds.
The limestone imprint dominates the palate—white stone, dried herbs, and a saline grip that cuts through the wine's medium body. Tannins remain fine-grained and integrated, never aggressive. Drink 2024–2032 for optimal freshness and mineral clarity.
