Cono Sur Bicicleta Cabernet Sauvignon
฿700
Founded in 1993 as an independent subsidiary of Concha y Toro, Cono Sur made its name by breaking conventions — most visibly in 2002, when it became the first Chilean winery to seal quality wines under screwcap, a decision that protected aromatic freshness at a time when cork was still considered non-negotiable for serious bottlings. The Bicicleta Cabernet Sauvignon carries that same pragmatic philosophy: no oak aging, no pretension, just clean varietal expression from Colchagua Valley fruit. Colchagua's valley floor delivers warm days moderated by Andean drainage, with alluvial soils — gravel over clay — that concentrate berry character while retaining enough structure to keep the wine from going flat. Vinification is entirely in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, preserving primary cassis and dried herb aromatics without the overlay of wood. The screwcap closure, still the house standard for early-drinking reds, eliminates cork taint risk and locks in freshness from bottling to glass. What sets this apart within the Bicicleta tier is its position inside a portfolio where every winemaking decision — from geese-managed organic blocks to Burgundian pigeage on Pinot Noir — is made with deliberate intent. Drink within 2–3 years of vintage for peak primary fruit expression.
