Calicanto

Viña El Principal's Calicanto is a Cabernet Sauvignon–dominant blend from Alto Maipo, Chile's premier high-altitude red wine subregion. The composition—57% Cabernet Sauvignon anchored by Carménère (18%), Syrah (9%), Petit Verdot (9%), and Cabernet Franc (7%)—builds a structured, medium-full-bodied wine with dark fruit intensity and layered complexity.

On the palate, blackcurrant and dark plum lead, supported by black pepper spice and cedar notes from oak aging. The wine develops leather and tobacco undertones with air, suggesting modest tertiary development. Medium tannins and balanced acidity make this a versatile food wine suited to grilled meats, braised beef, and aged cheeses.
