When Gérard Bertrand began converting his Languedoc estates to biodynamics from 2002 onward — ultimately certifying all properties to Demeter standard — he made a deliberate wager that the South of France could shed its bulk-production identity entirely. The Naturalys Syrah sits within that mission: a certified biodynamic expression built on the warm Mediterranean terroir of Languedoc-Roussillon, where strong seasonal winds reduce disease pressure and allow farming without chemical intervention, and where sun-baked soils push Syrah toward dark fruit concentration and savory depth.

Vinification follows Bertrand's house discipline of separate parcel fermentation, with reds processed through destemming and maceration in concrete vats or stainless steel tanks before Gérard himself oversees the final assemblage. Every stage — from harvest timing to bottling — is governed by the biodynamic lunar calendar, a practice Bertrand applies uniformly across all 17 estates. The Naturalys range is produced with no added sulfites, certified organic, and vegan-suitable, placing it among the most technically constrained expressions in the portfolio.

What distinguishes Naturalys within the Bertrand lineup is the zero-sulfite commitment at an accessible price point — a technical discipline more commonly reserved for prestige cuvées. The warm, drought-prone character of recent southern vintages delivers concentrated dark fruit and a plush mid-palate, with the biodynamic farming lending a mineral clarity that lifts the finish. Drink now through the near term.
