Moscato Rose
฿
Batasiolo, founded in 1978 and now one of the Langhe's largest estate producers, built its reputation on Barolo but has long championed the aromatic whites and rosés that Piedmontese locals drink at the table. This Moscato Rosé is a deliberate departure from the house's tannic reds — a low-intervention, low-alcohol expression designed to capture the perfume of Moscato Bianco before oak or extended maceration can obscure it.
The grapes are sourced from the sandy, calcareous soils of the Langhe hills around La Morra and Diano d'Alba, where warm days and cool nights preserve the grape's signature aromatic intensity. Fermentation is arrested early to retain natural residual sugar, producing a wine typically around 6–7% ABV. The gentle effervescence is achieved via the Charmat (autoclave) method, preserving delicate floral aromatics that a traditional secondary fermentation would diminish. The blush color comes from a small proportion of red-skinned Moscato or brief skin contact rather than blending with a full red wine. What sets this apart in the frizzante rosé category is the combination of genuine Moscato aromatic depth with a pink hue — most Moscato d'Asti expressions remain white. Drink young, within 1–2 years of release, to capture peak florality.
