The Balvenie 50 Years Old 2023 Release (700 ml)
฿2,246,999
When Malt Master David Stewart MBE — who joined Balvenie in 1962 and spent nearly six decades shaping its house character — selected and married four casks for this 2023 release, he was drawing on reserves laid down before most collectors were born. That act of patient curation is the technical foundation of this bottling: four individual casks, married at Dufftown and aged a minimum of fifty years in Balvenie's traditional flat-stone dunnage warehouses, some sitting on the foundations of New Balvenie Castle itself.
The distillery's water source, the Robbie Dhu Springs — soft Highland spring water from the foot of the Conval Hills, on land William Grant & Sons purchased specifically to protect it — runs through every stage, from mashing to dilution at bottling. Fifty years in Speyside's cool, humid dunnage conditions means exceptionally slow oxidation and a cask-to-spirit interaction of extraordinary depth, with the distillery's characteristic lightly peated barley (~4 ppm, floor-malted on-site) providing a malty substrate beneath decades of oak-driven transformation.
The Balvenie's in-house cooperage — forty-plus coopers maintaining, toasting, and re-charring casks for both Balvenie and Glenfiddich — ensures the integrity of every vessel across that half-century span. What separates this expression categorically from any peer is the sheer rarity of the raw material: only four casks survived selection, making this among the most limited age-statement single malts Balvenie has ever released. The 2023 release represents a single moment in a lineage that cannot be replicated.
