Loch Lomond
Loch Lomond Original Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700 ml)
฿1,900
When Duncan Thomas installed straight-neck pot stills fitted with 17 fixed copper rectification plates at Loch Lomond — a design he had pioneered at Littlemill in the 1950s — he created a still geometry no other distillery in the world has replicated. That engineering decision is the reason a single address in Alexandria, Dunbartonshire produces over thirteen distinct spirit styles simultaneously. The distillery occupies a former Victorian iron foundry on the southern shore of Loch Lomond, sitting precisely on the Highland Boundary Fault, and draws its process water from the loch itself. The site's mix of original brick warehouses and modern racked structures creates varied maturation microclimates across the same campus. The Original is built on an unpeated malt stream from traditional swan-neck pot stills, with fermentation running a minimum 92 hours and up to 160 hours — roughly double the Speyside norm — generating long-chain esters that push the spirit toward ripe orchard fruit before a single cask is filled. Maturation proceeds in ex-bourbon American oak hogsheads and barrels, adding honey and vanilla without obscuring the fermentation-derived fruitiness. What no peer does: this same campus also runs continuous column stills on 100% malted barley mash, making Loch Lomond the only site globally producing peated single grain whisky. The Original, bottled at 40% ABV, is the accessible entry point into that system — soft, fruit-forward, and shaped more by fermentation science than by oak.
