Glen Moray
Glen Moray 12 Years Old Single Malt Whisky (700 ml)
฿1,800
Glen Moray has drawn water from the River Lossie in Elgin since 1897, operating in a converted Victorian brewery on the flat, fertile floor of Speyside's western reach — a cooler, more maritime pocket than the Livet heartland upstream. Elgin's lower elevation and proximity to the Moray Firth moderate temperature swings, slowing maturation and preserving delicate cereal character through the full 12-year aging cycle.
The distillery's signature for this expression is triple-cask maturation: spirit rests sequentially in ex-bourbon American oak barrels, then finishes in ex-Chardonnay and ex-Chenin Blanc casks sourced from French wine production. The wine-cask finishing is applied without age-statement compromise — the full 12 years are served before any finishing begins. Bottled at 40% ABV, the whisky is chill-filtered to maintain clarity at retail temperature.
The deliberate use of white-wine casks rather than the industry-standard sherry or port finish is the defining departure here: Chardonnay and Chenin Blanc wood contribute stone-fruit and honeyed texture without the dark-fruit weight that dominates most finished Speysiders at this price point. A gentle, approachable 12-year-old built for immediate drinking rather than cellaring.
