Cutty Sark Prohibition Blended Scotch Whisky (700 ml)
฿1,640
Cutty Sark was the whisky of choice for American bootleggers during Prohibition, smuggled across the Atlantic precisely because its lighter Speyside-led character travelled well and sold fast. The Prohibition expression deliberately revives that era by bottling at 50% ABV — the strength at which the original illicit shipments reportedly crossed the border, rather than the diluted standard of modern blends.
The blend draws primarily on Speyside grain and malt whiskies, a region defined by the River Spey's soft, mineral-low water and fertile valley floors that encourage distilleries producing lighter, cereal-forward spirit. That regional character underpins the blend's approachable structure even at full proof.
The higher bottling strength is the defining technical departure here: no chill-filtration is applied, preserving the natural oils and texture that would otherwise be stripped at lower ABV. The result is a noticeably weightier mouthfeel than the standard Cutty Sark expression, with the grain sweetness amplified rather than muted.
Within the blended Scotch category, a 50% ABV non-chill-filtered blend at this price point is genuinely uncommon — most competitors reserve that treatment for single malts at twice the cost. Best enjoyed neat or with a single large ice cube to open the spirit gradually.
