Douglas Laing's Double Barrel Islay & Highland (700 ml)
฿3,800
Founded in Glasgow in 1948 by Fred Douglas Laing, the house built its reputation on long-standing distillery filling contracts — access that now extends to rare and closed-distillery stocks unavailable to most bottlers. Double Barrel Islay & Highland draws on that same network, marrying casks from Scotland's peatiest coastal region with the broader, orchard-fruited character of the Highland interior. No single production site defines this whisky; instead, the craft lies entirely in cask selection, conducted personally by third-generation custodians Fred Laing Jr. and Cara Laing from the company's Hillington Sample Room. Bottled at 46% ABV, without added colouring or chill-filtration, the natural oils and texture of both regional components are preserved intact — a house-wide commitment Douglas Laing adopted before it became industry fashion. The double-barrel concept is the structural transgression here: rather than blending finished whiskies, the expression marries two distinct regional cask streams, allowing Islay's iodine-laced peat smoke and Highland's heathered, malty weight to coexist without either dominating. As a non-vintage, small-batch release, character will shift subtly across batches, but the no-filtration policy ensures each iteration delivers full-texture spirit. Drink now or hold short-term.
