Arran 25 Years old Single Malt (700 ml) (Limited)

When Harold Currie, former Managing Director of Chivas Brothers, revived legal distillation on Arran in 1995 after a 160-year absence, he made a deliberate transgression: no peat, no maritime smoke — just clean, fruit-forward spirit that would need time to prove itself. Twenty-five years is that proof. The Lochranza distillery sits in Glen Eason Biorach ('Valley of the Sharp Waterfalls'), where water descends through six falls from Loch na Davie, filtering through granite-dominant terrain on the northern side of the Highland Boundary Fault. That granite contact strips the water of hardness while the Gulf Stream microclimate accelerates maturation — conditions that allow a quarter-century of aging without the spirit turning austere. Double distillation through tall-necked wash stills (7,100 L) and bulb-shaped spirit stills (4,300–4,800 L) with long lyne arms produces a new make collected at ~68% ABV, engineered for maximum fruity congener development via 60–75 hour fermentations in Oregon pine washbacks. Maturation draws on ex-bourbon American oak and ex-sherry European oak over the full 25-year span, with no E150a colouring added and no chill filtration — a house-wide commitment that preserves every ester the long distillation built. What no peer at this age does: an unpeated Islands malt reaching 25 years without leaning on smoke or heavy sherry to carry the weight.
