Glenmorangie Grand Vintage 1996 (700 ml)
฿39,899
When William Matheson converted Morangie Farm's brewery into a distillery in 1843, he acquired second-hand London gin stills — and their extraordinary height became Glenmorangie's defining technical inheritance. The Grand Vintage 1996 is a product of those same proportions: 5.14-metre spirit stills, the tallest in Scotland, enforcing such intense copper reflux that heavy, feinty congeners never reach the condenser, yielding one of the lightest new-make spirits in the Highlands.
The distillery sits on the southern shore of the Dornoch Firth at Tain, Ross-shire, drawing water from Tarlogie Springs — rainwater that has filtered through limestone and sandstone for up to a century, emerging hard and mineral-rich, an anomaly among Scottish distilleries. That mineral backbone threads through the spirit from mash to glass.
Maturation draws on Glenmorangie's proprietary Ozark Mountain oak programme: American white oak air-dried two years, then bourbon-seasoned for four years before receiving spirit — a supply-chain depth virtually unmatched in Scotch production. The heart cut runs from 74% ABV down to 60% ABV, a tight window that locks in ester-driven fruit while excluding heavier notes. The 1996 vintage represents a rare dated release from a distillery whose standard range carries no vintage declaration, making this a singular archive expression.
