Tomintoul White Port Cask Finish (700 ml)
฿2,600
Founded as blending stock for Whyte & Mackay and largely invisible as a single malt for 35 years, Tomintoul only began expressing its full range of cask creativity after Angus Dundee acquired the distillery in 2000 — the white port finish is a direct product of that creative freedom. Situated at approximately 345 m in the Livet Glen near the River Avon within Cairngorms National Park, the distillery draws process water from the Ballantruan Spring in the Cromdale Hills — exceptionally soft and pure, a geological condition that directly enables the high-reflux distillation style and the famously light, clean new make spirit. Primary maturation proceeds in American white oak ex-Bourbon casks, building the house's characteristic vanilla and orchard-cereal base before the white port cask finish layers in dried stone fruit, almond paste, and a gentle oxidative sweetness without the tannic weight of red port wood. The core range is bottled at 40% ABV, chill-filtered, with E150a colouring — a transparency point worth noting against the single-cask releases bottled at natural cask strength without filtration. What distinguishes this expression within the Tomintoul portfolio is the white port vessel itself: among a finishing programme that spans Oloroso, Madeira, Pinot Noir, and Tempranillo, white port is the lightest oxidative intervention, preserving the distillery's 'gentle dram' identity rather than overwriting it. Drink now through the near term; no declared vintage.
