Edition No.6 marks the final chapter of The Macallan's Edition Series — a run of annual releases each co-created with an external creative collaborator — with master perfumer Roja Dove providing the sensory brief that guided Master Whisky Maker Bob Dalgarno's cask selection. The brief centred on the concept of 'home': the Easter Elchies Estate itself, 485 acres of alluvial Speyside valley floor on the north-west bank of the River Spey near Craigellachie, where on-site spring water feeds the mash and the 1700-built Easter Elchies House anchors the brand's identity. The liquid is a vatting of sherry-seasoned European and American oak casks, both Oloroso-seasoned, sourced through Macallan's uniquely upstream-integrated wood programme — the distillery controls oak from Galician and Cantabrian forests through air-drying, coopering, and 18-month sherry seasoning in Jerez before a single fill. Distillation runs through 24 spirit stills of only 3,900 litres each — craft-distillery scale deliberately replicated to produce a heavier, oilier new make capable of absorbing years of sherry-cask influence. Bottled at 48.6% ABV, natural colour, no added caramel (E150a). What separates Edition No.6 from the core Sherry Oak range is the dual-oak vatting at a higher-than-standard ABV, delivering the sherry-fruit density of the European casks alongside the softer vanilla register of American oak — a structural contrast absent from the single-oak Sherry Oak 12 or 18.
