Compass Box The Double Single Blended (700 ml) (Limited Edition)
฿24,199
John Glaser founded Compass Box in 2000 with a winemaker's instinct for assemblage over provenance theatre — and The Double Single is that philosophy distilled to its most literal form: exactly two single casks, each from a named Scottish distillery, bottled together as a blended malt. The name is the concept; the concept is the argument.
As a blending house without a still, Compass Box selects individual cask parcels from distilleries across Islay, Speyside, the Highlands, and the Lowlands — each site contributing its own geological signature, whether coastal peat-cut barley from Islay's Atlantic-facing shores or the waxy, coastal-inflected character of Highland distilleries like Clynelish. The specific distillery pair in each Double Single release shifts batch to batch, making every edition a discrete, unrepeatable statement.
Bottled at 46% ABV, non-chill-filtered, and without added colouring, the whisky retains the full texture and natural hue that chill-filtration would strip. Cask selection is the sole technical lever — no re-maturation in custom French oak heads (the house's signature move on other expressions), no blending across dozens of parcels. Just two casks, chosen to create tension and resolution between them.
What makes this expression categorically unusual: it weaponises the legal definition of a blend — two or more single malts — to make a transparency argument that the single-malt category cannot, by definition, make.
