Dewar's 15 Years Old Blended Scotch Whisky (1 L)
฿2,069
When John Dewar's sons Tommy and John Alexander began re-casking their finished blends in the 1890s — returning the married spirit to oak for a further rest before bottling — they established a technique the industry would eventually call marrying. The 15 Year Old is the fullest expression of that philosophy in the core range. Aberfeldy Distillery, sited on the eastern outskirts of Aberfeldy in Highland Perthshire, draws its process water exclusively from the Pitilie Burn, a natural artesian spring that feeds into the River Tay; the mineral-soft water and extra-long larch-washback fermentation are the direct source of the distillery's signature heather-honey character. Aberfeldy's medium-height onion-shaped copper pot stills — two wash stills at ~16,500 L, two spirit stills at ~15,000 L — produce new make at 68–72% ABV, which is then transported to Glasgow for blending with up to 30 single malt and grain whiskies, including worm-tub Craigellachie and delicate Royal Brackla. Primary maturation runs 15 years predominantly in American oak ex-bourbon casks; the assembled blend then undergoes a second oak rest — the Double Aging marrying period — before bottling at 40% ABV. What separates this expression from standard blended Scotch is that two distinct aging stages are applied to the finished blend itself, not merely to component malts — a structural decision that produces textural cohesion most blends at this price tier cannot replicate. No vintage character applies; Master Blender Stephanie Macleod calibrates consistency across batches by nosing alone.
