Great King Street Glasgow Whisky (700 ml)

John Glaser founded Compass Box in 2000 with a single provocation: that blended Scotch, long dismissed as industrial filler, could be assembled with the same cask-selection rigour a winemaker applies to a grand cuvée. Great King Street Glasgow Blend is the house's entry into that argument via the Lowland register — a blended Scotch drawing on grain and malt parcels sourced from distilleries across Scotland, assembled at Compass Box's Richmond blending room rather than at any single distillery.

As a blending house with no still of its own, Compass Box's craft lives entirely in cask selection and assembly. Component whiskies arrive from ex-bourbon hogsheads and refill casks at source distilleries; Compass Box then specifies the final blend architecture. Bottled at 46% ABV, non-chill-filtered, and with zero added colouring — parameters that separate it categorically from the mass-market blends it sits beside on shelf, delivering more texture and natural hue than the category norm.

The special feature here is structural: in a category where most producers own their distilleries and guard their grain sources, Compass Box publishes its sourcing philosophy openly — a stance that twice put it in direct conflict with the Scotch Whisky Association, most publicly in its 2015 campaign for full label transparency of component whiskies. Glasgow Blend carries that activist DNA in its everyday format.
