Ardbeg 10 Years (700 ml)
฿3,059
Ardbeg was silent for much of the 1980s–90s before Glenmorangie acquired the distillery in 1997 and recommitted to the heaviest-peated style on Islay — a deliberate counter-move to industry-wide lightening. The 10 Year Old is the distillery's benchmark age-statement expression, built on that founding conviction.
The distillery sits on the southern shore of Islay, metres from the Atlantic, where salt-laden air permeates the dunnage warehouses during maturation. Ardbeg's malt is peated to approximately 50–55 ppm phenol — among the highest of any Scottish distillery — giving the spirit a medicinal, tarry character that coastal humidity softens over a decade.
Maturation relies primarily on ex-bourbon American oak casks, with a small proportion of unpeated malt spirit included in the vatting to lift the fruit register without diluting peat intensity. The whisky is bottled at 46% ABV, non-chill-filtered, preserving the natural oils responsible for its viscous texture.
What separates this 10-year-old from Islay peers is the combination of extreme phenolic load with a relatively short age statement — most distilleries at this ppm require longer maturation to integrate smoke. Ardbeg achieves integration at ten years through still-shape and cut-point discipline.
