Talisker has operated on the storm-exposed western shore of Loch Harport since 1830, making it the sole distillery on the Isle of Skye — a fact that shapes every drop. The distillery draws water from Cnoc nan Speireag, a hillside spring filtering through ancient basalt and peat, and the relentless Atlantic climate pushes saline, mineral character directly into the warehouses during maturation.

The 10 Year Old is matured in refill American oak ex-bourbon casks, a deliberate choice that keeps the spirit's own character — volcanic, peaty, coastal — dominant rather than masked by new wood. Talisker retains its worm tub condensers rather than modern shell-and-tube systems; the slower, cooler condensation preserves heavier, sulfurous congeners that translate into the distillery's signature meaty, briny depth. The wash stills carry a distinctive U-bend lyne arm that forces reflux and adds a layer of complexity unusual in heavily peated Scotch.

What sets this expression apart within the single malt category is that combination of high phenolic peat (around 25-30 ppm in the malted barley) alongside pronounced black pepper spice — a character rarely found together at this intensity in a 10-year-old bottled at 45.8% ABV, non-chill filtered.
