Old Malt Cask Blair Athol Sherry 18 Years (700 ml)
฿8,109
When Douglas Laing & Co. launched the Old Malt Cask range in 1998, the founding principle was cask sovereignty: one distillery, one cask, one bottling — never to be repeated. That philosophy passed intact to Hunter Laing & Co. after the 2013 family asset split, and it governs this Blair Athol expression entirely. Blair Athol distillery, sitting in Pitlochry at the southern edge of the Highlands, produces a characteristically weighty, fruit-driven spirit that takes well to oxidative wood — and 18 years in a single ex-sherry butt has amplified that tendency into something dense and dark. Hunter Laing's monthly tasting panel selected this individual cask from company stocks, then bottled it at exactly 50% ABV — the house standard, deliberately set below cask strength to balance intensity with accessibility, a deliberate departure from peers like Cadenhead's or Signatory who default to full cask strength. No chill-filtration and no caramel colouring were applied, preserving the natural texture and hue the sherry wood imparted over nearly two decades. What makes this release categorically unusual: once this cask is exhausted, the expression ceases to exist — the cask number on the label is the only true identifier, not the distillery name alone. Drink now through the next decade; the sherry saturation is at full expression.
