Old Malt Cask Macduff 21 Years (Highland) (700 ml)
฿15,460
When the Laing family divided assets in 2013, Stewart Laing took the Old Malt Cask range to his newly formed Hunter Laing & Co. — and with it, a founding principle: every cask selected by the Glasgow tasting panel is bottled exactly as it matured, from a single vessel, with no chill-filtration and no caramel colouring. Macduff distillery, sitting on the Banffshire coast of the Highland region, produces a spirit known for its orchard-fruit weight and waxy texture — characteristics that extended maturation in a single cask amplifies rather than dilutes. 21 years of aging in a single cask (cask type, distillation year, and cask number printed on the label) allows the wood's contribution to integrate fully without the homogenising effect of vatting. The deliberate 50% ABV bottling standard — not cask strength, but not reduced to trade-standard 46% either — is OMC's defining technical transgression: peers like Cadenhead's and Signatory default to full cask strength, while OMC chooses a fixed dilution point that preserves aromatic intensity while softening the raw alcohol edge. What makes this release categorically unrepeatable is its single-cask finitude: once the hogshead or butt is exhausted, no second bottling exists. The cask number on the label is the only true identifier.
