Bunnahabhain, sitting on the northeastern shore of Islay facing the Sound of Jura, is the island's most maritime-exposed distillery, where Atlantic salt air permeates warehouses built directly above the shoreline. That coastal influence — rather than the heavy peat smoke associated with southern Islay — defines the house character here: briny, nutty, and malt-forward. Matured in a single refill hogshead (ex-bourbon), the used wood allows Bunnahabhain's unpeated malt to speak without oak domination, preserving the distillery's natural saline and dried-fruit register. Bottled at 46% ABV, non-chill-filtered, with no added colouring — the full Provenance protocol — texture and natural haze are retained.
