Código 1530 Tequila Resposado (750 ml)
฿5,000
When Código 1530 launched in 2016, its founders made a single decision that separated it from virtually every other Jalisco producer: no ex-bourbon barrels, ever. Every rested expression in the lineup ages exclusively in French White Oak barrels previously used for Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon — a choice that replaces the coconut-vanilla signature of American oak with eugenol-driven clove spice and a subtle red-fruit lift drawn from the wine-saturated wood.
The agave itself comes from Los Bajos (Lowlands) volcanic-soil farms around Amatitán, where rain-fed fertile ground and process water filtered through volcanic rock produce piñas accepted only at ≥32 Brix — a density threshold that ensures concentrated, mineral-rich juice before a single drop of heat is applied. That minerality is the terroir signature of the valley floor.
At Varo Destilería (NOM 1616), the juice ferments with heirloom bread yeast sourced from a multi-generational Amatitán bakery, a slow fermentation measured in days rather than hours, before double distillation in custom handmade stainless steel pot stills. The Reposado then rests six months in those ex-Napa Cabernet French oak barrels, with zero additives, colorants, or sweeteners at any stage.
The use of wine-origin French oak across an entire aged tequila lineup — rather than as a finishing novelty — remains the brand's defining technical transgression in the Jalisco Lowlands category.
As a non-vintage spirit, character is consistent across batches; the Reposado sits at the sweet spot of the lineup where agave earthiness and oak integration are both present without either dominating.
