Vecchia Romagna Classica Brandy (700 ml)
฿689
Vecchia Romagna has produced brandy in Emilia-Romagna since 1820, making it one of Italy's longest-standing distilleries — a lineage that predates the modern Italian state itself. The house built its identity on Trebbiano di Romagna, the high-acid, neutral-fruited white grape of the Po Valley flatlands, whose lean character provides a clean, spirit-forward base that takes oak influence without competing aromatics.
The Classica expression is distilled in copper pot stills, a deliberate retention of batch distillation at a time when continuous column stills dominate industrial brandy production. This choice preserves congeners and textural weight that column distillation strips away. The spirit is then aged in oak casks, developing the dried-fruit and vanilla character associated with the house style. Bottled at 38% ABV, it is presented without chill-filtration claims, though the accessible price point positions it as the entry expression in the Vecchia Romagna range.
What separates Classica from peer-priced European brandies is its Italian identity: Trebbiano-based distillate aged in a warm continental climate produces a rounder, less austere profile than Cognac-region equivalents at this tier. A reliable, consistent expression suited to room-temperature sipping or long mixed drinks.
