Hennessy XO Limited Edition by Marc Newson (700 ml)

Maurice Hennessy created the XO category in 1870 as a private reserve for family and friends — a blend so ambitious it had no commercial classification to fit it. That founding logic still governs the liquid inside: over 100 eaux-de-vie drawn from Grande Champagne, Petite Champagne, Borderies, and Fins Bois, the oldest components resting in Limousin oak for up to 30 years. Grande Champagne's shallow clay-limestone chalk drives the long, slow oxidation that builds structural depth; Borderies' clay-flint soils contribute a rounder, nuttier register that softens the blend's spine.

Production follows Hennessy's deliberately richer house protocol: double distillation in Charentais copper pot stills, conducted on both lees and off-lees — unlike Martell, which never uses lees — with heads and tails reintroduced to the brouillis before the second pass, concentrating congeners for greater aromatic density. Limousin oak barrels are sourced from Hennessy's own forests (trees felled at 80+ years) and cooperaged in-house at 400–500 barrels per year. The final blend is assessed by the eighth consecutive generation of the Fillioux Master Blender lineage. The Marc Newson limited edition rehouses this unchanged liquid in a collector-grade sculptural decanter — the object transgresses the category norm of purely functional packaging without altering a single production parameter. Bottled at 40% ABV, lightly filtered.
