Absinthe was banned across most of Europe in 1915, and its revival after 2000 forced producers to prove the drink's identity was always botanical, never chemical. Grande Absinthe anchors that argument in Provence, where Artemisia absinthium (grand wormwood), green anise, and fennel grow in the same sun-baked, limestone-rich garrigue that shaped the spirit's original character.
The distillate is produced in traditional copper pot stills, with the three core botanicals macerated before distillation — the method that separates a true absinthe from a cold-mixed pastis. Post-distillation, a secondary cold maceration of petite wormwood, hyssop, and melissa imparts the characteristic natural green colour without artificial dyes.
At 65% ABV, the spirit sits in the upper register of the category, preserving volatile aromatic compounds that lower-proof expressions lose. The louche — the milky cloud that forms when water is added — is driven by trans-anethole crystallising out of solution, a physical marker of genuine essential-oil concentration.
The 350 ml format is unusual for the category, positioning this as a precise bar tool rather than a shelf statement, and the Provençal botanical sourcing keeps the wormwood character assertive rather than decorative.
