R.Jelinek Premium Absinthe (700 ml)
฿1,180
R. Jelínek, the Vizovice-based distillery founded in 1894 and long celebrated for Moravian slivovitz, extended its botanical spirits range with this absinthe drawing on the Czech Republic's own wormwood-growing heritage in the Moravia region. Czech absinthe occupies a legally distinct space from Swiss or French styles — no mandated colour, no ban on thujone-bearing Artemisia absinthium within EU limits — giving producers latitude that Western counterparts lack.
The botanical core follows the traditional trinity: grand wormwood (Artemisia absinthium), green anise, and fennel, macerated in neutral spirit before redistillation to carry volatile aromatics cleanly into the final liquid. The result is bottled at a high ABV typical of the category, preserving the louche effect when water is added. No artificial colouring is declared, placing this in the naturally coloured or uncoloured Czech style rather than the artificially greened commercial tier.
What distinguishes this expression within Jelínek's portfolio is the application of a heritage distillery's copper-pot infrastructure — built for fruit brandy precision — to a botanical category that rewards careful cuts. The bitterness is present but calibrated, sitting closer to a traditional verte profile than a Czech bitter liqueur. Drink over a sugar cube with ice-cold water to trigger the louche, or neat at room temperature to assess the wormwood backbone directly.
