Weingut Robert Weil Riesling Rheingau Tradition, Germany — ฿1,200
We keep coming back to this one all July. Alsatian and Rheingau Riesling at this level is one of the great underrated pairings with Thai food — the natural acidity, the citrus precision, the mineral finish — it handles lemongrass and galangal like the wine was designed for it. We've been drinking it with tom kha gai and it is, frankly, a revelation. If you think you don't like Riesling, this is the bottle that changes your mind.
Whispering Angel Rosé, Côtes de Provence, France — ฿1,049 (sale)
Yes, it's the obvious pick. But it's obvious for a reason. There is no better porch wine for a Bangkok July than a properly chilled glass of this — pale salmon, bone dry, with that gentle Provençal herb thing going on in the background. We've been drinking it alongside grilled prawns and som tum and it disappears alarmingly fast. Keep two bottles in the fridge at all times. Trust us. Also on sale this month.

Heim Gewurztraminer Imperial, Alsace, France — ฿1,069 (sale)
Our budget hero this month. Gewürztraminer is criminally underordered in Bangkok restaurants, and this Heim is a textbook example of why the grape deserves more attention. Lychee, rose petal, white pepper — off-dry finish that makes a Massaman curry taste like the winemaker had it in mind. We had it with khao soi last week and it worked beautifully. Under ฿1,100, genuinely interesting, and ready to drink right now.
Bodegas Muga Reserva Rioja DOC, Spain — ฿1,758 (sale)
This is the red wine pick for July, and it's the one we've been reaching for on the evenings when the AC is running and you want something with more grip than a rosé. Muga Reserva is Rioja done right: 24 months in American oak, cherry and vanilla, firm enough to last the meal but approachable now. We've been having it with grilled pork neck from the vendor downstairs and it's a combination we'd stand behind. On sale this month — buy a case.
The Matsui Pure Malt Peated, Tottori, Japan — ฿4,700
When the AC is running and the rain is really coming down, someone in the office always reaches for this. Not the obvious Japanese whisky pick — Suntory and Nikka get all the attention — but this peated Matsui is a quietly brilliant bottle. Earthy, lightly smoky, lighter than Islay peat but more interesting than anything unpeated at this price. We've been drinking it neat with a single rock and a bit of patience while the storm passes. This is the whisky Bangkok's premium drinkers haven't discovered yet.

Granmonte Sparkling Rosé Méthode Traditionnelle Brut, Khao Yai — ฿1,449
We've been including Thai wine in the edit when it's genuinely worth drinking, and this Granmonte sparkling is. Traditional method, Syrah-based, tight persistent bubbles, bone dry with a red fruit finish that holds up through an entire meal. We opened a bottle at the office to mark finishing this month's blog calendar and it was gone before we'd noticed. The best Thai sparkling wine we've had, and that's not faint praise.
Next month we're going deep on South American reds — some serious Malbec and a Chilean Carménère we've been holding back for August.
