−5%Albert Bichot's structural commitment to decentralised vinification — each of its six estate wineries processes only the wines of its own sub-region — means this Pouilly-Fuissé is handled at the facility geographically closest to the Mâconnais source, not consolidated into a Beaune production line as most large négociants would do. Pouilly-Fuissé sits on a complex mosaic of Triassic limestone and clay soils beneath the dramatic rock faces of Vergisson and Solutré, elevations reaching 400 metres, where diurnal temperature swings preserve aromatic tension even in warm years. The 2022 growing season delivered an early, hot harvest; fermentation in stainless steel tanks with a proportion of used oak barrels captures the vintage's generous, aromatic fruit while the used-oak component adds textural weight without imposing new-wood character. Aging runs 11–16 months in a split of stainless steel (dominant) and used French oak, consistent with Bichot's regional white protocol of approximately 80% steel to 20% used barrel. What distinguishes this expression is Bichot's deliberate refusal to centralise: the micro-terroir fidelity of a Mâconnais Chardonnay is preserved through proximity of vinification, not just sourcing. The 2022 vintage character — ripe, full-bodied, and aromatic — is approachable now but carries sufficient limestone-driven structure for three to five years of further development.
