Nuna Chardonnay
฿
SaleAnakena's Nuna Chardonnay originates from Casablanca Valley, a subregion of Cachapoal Valley in central Chile, where Pacific fog and coastal breezes moderate ripening across limestone-rich soils at 300–400 meters elevation. The vineyard's diurnal temperature swing—warm days, cool nights—preserves acidity and delays phenolic maturity, a signature of Chile's maritime microclimates.
This expression is unoaked or minimally oaked, allowing primary fruit character and mineral tension to dominate. Fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel captures the site's natural acidity without oxidative development. The decision to forgo extended wood aging reflects a modern Chilean philosophy: let cool-climate Chardonnay speak through its terroir rather than oak imprint.
The special feature is Nuna's restraint—a deliberate counterpoint to the riper, oak-forward Chardonnays that dominated Chilean export markets in the 1990s–2000s. This wine prioritizes freshness, mineral salinity, and linear structure over butter and vanilla.
Drink 2024–2027 for optimal brightness and acidity retention.
