Bret Brothers Pouilly-Fuisse Cuvee "Terres de Vergisson"
฿฿
The Bret family has farmed the Vergisson slope for four generations, their vineyard sitting on the distinctive white limestone (Jurassic) that defines this Burgundian microclimate. The Terres de Vergisson cuvée captures the site's geological signature: a south-facing parcel at 350–380 metres elevation where morning fog burns off by mid-morning, concentrating phenolic ripeness without excess alcohol.
Technique: Hand-harvested Chardonnay undergoes temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel, preserving the mineral acidity native to Vergisson's chalk-rich soils. No oak aging—the wine remains on its lees for 6–8 months, developing textural complexity without wood influence. This restraint is deliberate: the limestone demands expression, not masking.
Special feature: Pouilly-Fuissé's appellation permits both oaked and unoaked expressions; this cuvée belongs to the latter tradition, increasingly rare among producers seeking international validation. The result is a wine where terroir—not winemaker ego—dominates the glass.
Drink 2024–2032. Peak drinking window: 2–4 years from vintage.
