Yalumba Y Series Viognier

−11%Yalumba planted Viognier in Eden Valley in 1980, when the variety had almost no presence outside the northern Rhône — a deliberate bet on altitude and aromatic potential that predated Australia's broader Viognier wave by two decades. That pioneering commitment makes the Y Series the entry point into a house that has shaped the entire category on this continent.
Eden Valley's shallow, rocky, well-drained soils at 400–550 m elevation force vine roots deep while moderating ripening temperatures, preserving the lifted floral aromatics and natural acidity that distinguish the region's Viognier from warmer, lower-altitude fruit. The diurnal range at these elevations is the structural engine behind the wine's freshness.
Fermentation is conducted in stainless steel under cool, controlled conditions, a deliberate choice to lock in primary aromatic compounds — apricot kernel, white peach, dried ginger — rather than allow them to volatilise. All Yalumba wines have been 100% vegan since the 2012 vintage, with no animal-derived fining agents used across the range. The Y Series draws on Yalumba's Nursery-sourced clonal material, the same research infrastructure that underpins the flagship Virgilius.
What sets this expression apart is its direct lineage to Australia's most serious Viognier program: the same Eden Valley elevation and clonal knowledge that informs the Virgilius is channelled here at an accessible tier — a genuine house-style statement, not a commodity varietal.
The current vintage is best consumed within 2–3 years of release to capture peak aromatic intensity.
