Terre del Vulcano Lava Falanghina Beneventano DOC
฿
Lava del Vulcano's Falanghina Beneventano originates in the volcanic foothills of Campania's Beneventano zone, where Vesuvian soils—rich in pumice and ash—impose a distinctive mineral signature on this ancient southern Italian varietal. The vineyard sits at moderate elevation on slopes with southeasterly aspect, benefiting from diurnal temperature swings that preserve acidity in the ripening fruit.
The wine undergoes fermentation in stainless steel with extended lees contact, a technique that builds textural complexity while maintaining the varietal's natural salinity. This sur-lie aging—typically 4–6 months—softens the wine's edges without masking the terroir's volcanic imprint. Falanghina, a pre-phylloxera variety nearly extinct until late-20th-century revival efforts, responds to this handling by developing layered aromatics that bridge stone fruit and mineral tension.
The volcanic provenance is the defining feature: Beneventano's pumice-laden soils impart a distinctive white-pepper and flint character that distinguishes this expression from coastal Campanian Falanghinas. The result is a wine of medium body and bracing acidity—built for food rather than solo sipping—that reflects both varietal authenticity and site specificity.
