Elena Walch Gewurtztraminer Alto Adige D.O.C.
฿฿
Elena Walch's Alto Adige Gewürztraminer originates from the Trentino-Alto Adige region, where the Dolomite foothills create a distinctive terroir of limestone-rich soils and pronounced diurnal temperature swings. The vineyard sites sit at elevations between 400–600 meters, exposing vines to intense daytime sun and cool Alpine nights that preserve acidity in the aromatic Gewürztraminer grape.
The wine is produced using cool-fermentation techniques in temperature-controlled stainless steel, a hallmark of modern Alto Adige winemaking that captures the varietal's volatile aromatics without oxidation. Walch's house style favors minimal oak contact, allowing the mineral and floral character of the limestone terroir to dominate. The result is a wine of medium body with pronounced acidity—typical of northern Italian Gewürztraminer—that balances the variety's natural spice and stone-fruit intensity against crisp, refreshing finish.
The special character here lies in the restraint: rather than the heavier, more opulent Gewürztraminers of Alsace, this expression channels the Alpine precision of its origin, where acidity and mineral tension define the profile as much as aromatic expression.
